The Maine Retired Skipper's Race racecourse is a twelve-mile triangle beginning at the entrance to Castine Harbor here on the east side of the Penobscot Bay, Maine. The yachts are started at different times depending upon their handicaps.

  1. Will this be your skipper’s first race?

  2. As required by the race rules, your skipper or you, on his behalf, are required to give a statement attesting to his qualifications to act as skipper.
    This applies to first time skippers only. Previous skippers are "grandfathered" but must comply with all race rules, which are listed below.
    1. Skippers must be at least 65 years of age.
    2. Skippers must have sufficient experience to possess competency to perform as a skipper.
    3. The designated retired skipper as listed on the race form will be required, as a minimum, to be at the helm of his boat throughout the first and final legs of the race and as much additional time as the skipper feels able.
    An individual desiring to be a skipper who meets all other requirements must submit a short statement attesting to his qualifications under item (3).
    Should a prospective skipper not desire to submit such a statement personally, a Director or other acknowledged yachtsman knowing of his abilities may attest thereto for him.
